Because I find that the "right" common ancestors show up among my distant cousins. And yeah, many people dont respond to inquiries or keep their data private. Annoys me too, but I dont know what to do about it. By the way I also have Armstrong ancestors, but from Warwick NY area rather than Maine. I do have Henley ancestors from South Portland ME area.
